Its core content is the development of the student's own use and self-awareness according to Alexander's principles of inhibition and direction. Hands-on sensitivity and skills are developed throughout the course through games, small groups and one-to-one teaching. We aim to give trainees a high level of understanding of their own use as the basis of being able to teach others. There is a regular daily timetable that includes two one-to-one mini-lessons with the Director of Training. The theoretical component of the course is interwoven with the daily practical work. The course includes specific modules in the following areas: how to set up a successful practiceWe are experts in private practice, since 1989 we have run one of the most successful Alexander Technique private practices in the world having taught over 40,000 sessions. We are pioneers of group work teaching in a number of areas, in business, adult education, courses with holiday companies, courses for the visually impaired and training for teachers. We have run an extensive group program which includes over 100 residential courses, in the UK and abroad. We had great success working within the NHS and Dental Practice Board and we tailor courses for the specific needs of the modern business. This module is designed to share the range of skills that led us to achieve this success. We will explore lesson content and how to develop a pupils interest over a course of lessons. You will learn about structuring an individual lesson and how to present the Alexander Technique in an exciting and modern framework. We will share the secrets of how to run great introductory courses and how to work with business. voice workYou will learn how to work with professionals to improve their vocal skills wether this is spoken or for singing and acting. You can arrange to do this by contacting us here. assessment and qualificationAs the Alexander Technique is a practical skill there are no written exams or modules. Instead as a traditional Alexander Technique training, there is an ongoing assessment by the Directors of Training of the school. This includes completion of a course of supervised lessons with members of the public, in the third year. As well as having to satisfy the course directors, students are independently assessed in their sixth and final terms by external moderators appointed by STAT. At the end of training you will be awarded an internationally recognized professional qualification which allows you to work as an Alexander teacher anywhere in the world. You will be able to become a member of STAT - the Society for Teachers of the Alexander Technique and use the letters MSTAT after your name. entry requirementsThe course is suitable for people of all ages and anyone can apply. There are no specific entry requirements, although we do expect you to be in general good health and be motivated and committed to learn. We would also expect that you will already be familiar with the Alexander Technique. We encourage potential trainees to visit the school before applying for a place on the course. Visitors are made very welcome and there is no charge for prospective trainee visits to the school. You will be welcome to take part in the day’s classes, meet and work with the teachers, and have a private lesson with one of the Directors of training. As a STAT approved training course all students are requested to become student members of STAT from the beginning of their training at an Alexander Technique practitioner. term dates and timetableOur dates for our Alexander Technique practitioner training year are always the same as local school term dates, so parents can retrain whilst their children are at school. The training course runs for four mornings a week, three terms per year for a period of three years. This gives the time and space needed to make profound changes in your own life and well-being, and gives you the foundation for a lifetime of Alexander Technique teaching and helping others. The course runs for about 33 weeks per year. We meet on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday from 9.00am - 1.00pm. We have a half term break in the middle of each term. Students need to complete 1600 hours of training, as required by STAT to gain the qualification MSTAT. Since all our students at whatever stage of learning train together, students can join at the beginning of any term or half term, subject to places being available.
