why not start living more in the present ?
The training in the Alexander Technique takes the form of an transformational personal development program
that enables you to start to enjoy what you have.
At the end
of three years, you will have acquired an impressive range of mind / body / spirit
tools for your own benefit or to share with others if you wish to practice.
Some people train in order to create a change in their work / life balance and
find a new career. Eighty per cent of the course is of a practical nature.
The intensive training is of such personal benefit people do it for the sheer
fun, interest and challenge that the course gives them.
Many consider the training
as a gift to themselves at a certain point in their lives, in order to fortify
them against the trials and tribulations of life, in doing so they have chosen
well because Alexander Technique at this level is simply fantastic for mind, body and spirit.
By immersing oneself into the luxury of daily
hand’s-on work with senior
practitioners, contemplation of life’s mysteries with like minded folk,
students notice a great strengthening of their whole being.
Many do the training
because they are ill or live with the threat of illness. Significant health worries
makes you realize the value of health.
So the training is a brilliant response
to the worry and anxiety of ill health to immerse oneself in a powerful program
of self help.
Some simply realize that to work at this level is a lot of fun
and that mindful improvement is probably the most important thing to do with
life. The course is a wonderful opportunity to look deeply into the relationship
between mind, body and spirit.

am I too old to train ?
There is no age limit for people who wish to join. Many people find it is the
ideal retirement gift to themselves after many years of hard work.
What a brilliant
idea to invest a significant amount of energy into your own mental / physical
/ spiritual well being at any stage in life. Many people assume that
age and decline go hand in hand with no hope of significant improvement, but that
is far from our experience truth with our work.
what sort of people join ?
People of all ages and backgrounds enjoy the training course in the Alexander Technique for many different reasons.
what current students are saying ?

idea to come and visit. This will give you the chance to meet our current students
and talk to them, they are a friendly and helpful group who will be pleased to
meet you.

what is a typical morning like ?
This is a hard question to is answer because each day is different. We always
start with a quiet meditative time when students assume the semi supine lying
down position and start to quieten their minds and bodies. This is a reflective
and beautiful start to our day. We work with a core procedure such as sitting,
standing, voice or walking. Read relevant texts and discuss the wide ranging
issues around living in the present. Eighty per cent of the course is of a practical
nature.
The first half of the morning is focused on improving and expanding our sense
of ourselves and developing our skills of practicing Alexander Technique awareness in a
variety of everyday situations.
The second half is directed towards the development of teaching skills, particularly
in the use of the hands. Our aim is to use our hands in a sensitive and directed
way to pass on to our pupils the wonderful sense of lightness and freedom that
we experience in ourselves. Guests and visiting teachers from all backgrounds
are made very welcome.
how and when can I join ?
The course operates a rolling entry procedure so students may join us at the
start of any term or any half term at any point in the year.

where might I practice after qualifying ?
Work opportunities for the Alexander Technique arise in sports, business, alternative medicine and
the arts. There is scope for taking Alexander Technique into business in a variety of areas, voice
and public speaking in business, stress management courses, ergonomic training,
RSI busting, desk-work and computer use, lifting and manual handling. At
the moment there is an NHS funded research program into Alexander Technique.
The research
is looking at the effectiveness of both a short course of lessons ( 6 ) and a
full course ( 24 ) for people who have suffered with long term back pain.
The
findings of the pilot scheme are very encouraging there is a possibility
that this program will convince the NHS to look at some form of assisted
funding for people to take Alexander Technique sessions funded by the NHS.
what qualifications do I need to apply ?
There are no specific qualifications that are required in order to join our training
course. You will need to demonstrate a keen interest in the Alexander Technique and have some
